These people do not care about wellbeing

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

My gas was shut off last week; admittedly, it was my fault, I hadn't paid my bill. I tried to make a payment multiple times online, and the website wasn't working.

I called customer service once they had shut it off, and the woman who helped was helpful at first.

She gave me my amount due. Then slapped on another $150 for reconnection and then another $60 for some other fee because my gas had been shut off. I told her I had not received communication my gas was going to be shut off - no call, no letter. She said she would wave the $60 fee.

Great. I made my payment, and then she PROCEEDED TO TELL ME I WOULDN'T HAVE SERVICE UNTIL NEXT WEEK. Y'all. My gas was shut off on Thursday (admittedly, I didn't notice, because I still had hot water in my water tank and I didn't cook that night...and it was decent weather).

She proceeded to tell me I would not be able to have my gas reconnected until the following week and the earliest would be Monday afternoon.

FIVE DAYS LATER.

Now again, this was my own dumb fault for not paying on time and not just calling to pay over the phone when the website wouldn't work. I got busy with work, completely forgot about it. But you pay a company TWICE what you owe them, and then they still say "sorry - you'll have to wait five days for service". That's ridiculous.

Fortunately, I did not suffer, but I know for a lot of people/families out there, they probably don't have family to stay with or additional income to just order food/go out to eat, or purchase a heater to keep them warm if it got too cold.

It's ridiculous a gas company can't provider reconnection for someone at least the next day. And let me tell you - they are waiting until the last minute for this appointment. My appointment time frame is 12-4. It's after 3 p.m.

and the status has not changed yet to "on the way".

This makes me angry not necessarily for myself, but other people who depend on this essential service for medical reasons, or if they are elderly, can't afford to run out and pick up takeout to eat instead, etc.I almost feel like the way this is handled is inhumane.

You demand $200 extra for service to be turned on - most of these people probably can't afford it, and you still don't provide service for days. Do better.

User's recommendation: Pay your bill on time. Companies like this make their money from people who don't pay on time and have to pay a reconnection fee.

You called on Friday the 9th. Today is the 12th.

That is not FIVE DAYS LATER. That is the next business day from when you made payment.

You can capitalize it all you want. It doesn’t make math for dummies true.

You did not pay a company twice what you owed them. You paid your bill plus any late fee AND a reconnection fee.

You seem to think you were randomly paying extra. And it was $150, not $200. Don’t round up. Going forward, determine what your due date is.

Go 7 days earlier than that date, the 8th for argument’s sake. Go to your phone and set up alerts on the 8th for the next 6 months as a reminder. Program their phone number into your phone as a contact. Set up email and text alerts with the company for correspondence.

Assume ALWAYS if your bill is due on the 15th, your gas will immediately be shut off at 12:01 on the 16th. Don’t bring others’ circumstances, hypothetical medical conditions into your argument about YOUR bill.

You made them wait for your money. You can wait for reconnection.

Pass-through charges are $38 for a $44 gas bill.

As the title reads, our Atlanta Gas Light bill is $38 in fees for a $44 gas bill. It is outrageous, unnecessary, and highway robbery. That's really all I have to write. I don't know why you force me to include 100 words, as it's kind of irritating me more. I have written enough. It's a complaint not a rant.

Horrible customer service

Original review Mar 04, 2023

My gas is through GNG. Atl Gas Light came to turn it on.

The technician claimed that the water heater could not be turned cause there was something wrong with it. I noticed that the genius was checking the structure for the apartment building next to mine. A fact which was confirmed by the maintenance who confirmed there wasnt a damn thing wrong with the water heater in the structure that's connected to the building I live in.

I call customer service and get told in a very condescending voice about what they WONT and DONT do despite the fact it was THEIR mistake that the technician was checking a water heater for a place that's not even occupied. I'm paying for gas I can't even get!!!

Disconnected my service without my consent

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Their field agent was rude and arrogant, and said that my water heater was illegal and turned off my gas. The water heater was installed in 2004, and passed inspection then and when I bought the house in 2010. I called in my plumber, a licensed technician, and he agreed on one of the items - a minor repair could resolve it. The other three were debatable or wrong. AGL did not respond to my three attempts to resolve the situation. So I switched to a heat pump and electric water heater. I have had more communication with them since I requested a disconnect. This Company is INCOMPETENT.

Refusal to come out and turn gas on

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
My home was struck by lightning, and Atlanta Gas Light came out and turned my gas off at the outside valve. Gave me an 800 number to call when I was ready for gas to be turned on. I've called three times, and they refuse to come out. They told me to have a certified plumber or contractor turn it in. Why should I when they turned it off, and then told me to call when ready to turn it back on. I'm very disappointed.

Failure to reconnect immediately medical when GNG disconnected erroneously

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I am with GNG and paid my bill on Wednesday of this week. Unbeknownst to me and despite payment posting on GNGs website they still came out this morning and disconnected our gas. I called and called and there is nothing they can do until Tuesday! I have serious health issues, sent documentation from my doctor substantiating immediate need to reconnect, and still nothing. I am likely going to wind up in the hospital with pneumonia because I have no heat or hot water. Why are we subject to this in a large city like Atlanta? People with medical disabilities should be treated better.

No customer service in 2019

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Since AGL cannot afford phone for their technicians to use to call customers when they are on the way to a property, I wss expected to sit in a cold, empty house for at leadt 4 hours That was not going to work, sonthe unfriendly AGL employee suggested I leave a lockbox to allow the technician to go by and turn on the gas without me having to be there. Still a.no show. No customer disservice during the weekend to reschedule. A lownof 16 in the forecast. Space heaters left on unattended are not safe. Will AGL pay for pipe repair uf they freeze up?

Horrible customer service and even worse technicians.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Atlanta Gas Light - Horrible customer service and even worse technicians.

As a gas south customer in Georgia for over 30 years, i requested my gas service to be suspended while I was at my vacation home in another state. Of course they did that no problem in fact they did it the very day I asked them.

When it was time for me to return, I made arrangementsthreecdays before with the Gas South operators to have my gas turned back on. I was assured and given a confirmation number for an appointment on Tues July 18 2017 between 8am and 4pm. At 9:30 a.m. I Went Out My Backdoor to retrieve something from my car, as we had moved our stuff back from our vacation home both cars were in driveway fully loaded as well as all doors open to the house windows as well.

I found a tag from the Atlanta gas light technician that said no one home so he could not do installation. I called gas south immediately and they informed me that he was an independent contractor through Atlanta gas light and I would have to call Atlanta gas light in order to resolve my issue. After I called and made a complaint the technician miraculously showed up at my door looking very unprofessional without a uniform; he was in street clothes. I asked him about why he didnt hook up my gas scheduled for the previous day.......he kept trying to hand me new customer information and talk over me not answering my inquiry about why he didn't hook up gas.

30 years people.......30 years I've been a customer and they have technicians who are on some type of power trip or something and get to determine when and if you get a service you requested and paid for in advance... this is wrong just plain wrong. My technicians name is Mark Conner. I live in Thomaston GA...........wonder if he lives here.......

the other technician they have does, and the ones previously employed by Atlanta Gas Light when they were a local provider (before deregulation) lived here as well. Three of the four born and raised here, I suspect Mr. Conner is a local too.... What has happened to customer service and pride?

Why isn't anyone accountable for these screw ups? Very discouraging and dissapointing.
